What is browser fingerprinting?

Browser fingerprinting is a technique that combines dozens of browser and device characteristics — screen resolution, installed fonts, WebGL renderer, timezone, language settings — into a composite identifier that is often unique to your specific browser and device. Unlike cookies, it does not store anything on your computer and cannot be cleared.

Many websites use fingerprinting to track users across sessions and even across different websites. Even if you are using a “private” or “incognito” browser window, fingerprinting can still identify your device.

OurStranger uses browser fingerprinting only for abuse prevention — to identify users who have been banned from the platform and prevent them from creating new sessions. We do not sell fingerprint data, use it for advertising, or share it with third parties. Read our full privacy policy for details.
